I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentines Day.  March is fast approaching and Spring will be here soon – we all hope it comes soon and  no more snow.

MARCH 5TH MEETING WILL BE A POT-LUCK  SUPPER  --  6:30  JoAnn Birkenberger says to call her at 203 879-0364 with any questions.

At our February meeting there were only 17 members, but it was a very cold and snowy night.  However, we picked a nominating committee.  Fran Culver is chairlady, and Lois Pecka, Mary Taylor, Phyllis Bruce and Ruth DeLeo are on the committee.  At their meeting they will make a list of officers and committee chairs to present to the club on March 5th.  When and if you get a call from them to help out for the coming year, please say yes, as we need workers to carry out all our plans and to keep us helping our community.

We had our Arts and Crafts meeting in February and the following ladies won blue ribbons:  Diane Colangelo won with a hand made quilt, Helene Sweeney won for attachable collars, Sandy Fitzner won for her lined pocketbook and Kathy Cosgrove won for a pillow made from ties.  Congratulations Ladies and we hope you win again at District Day.  This year it is on April 27th at the Manor Inn and that is close by – see you there.

This year we will be giving out our first Sylvia Russell Scholarship along with our other two scholarships.  We decided to give three Sylvia Russell scholarships at $500.00 each, one each year, and base the award on “service to our community”.   There has been no reply to our State Scholarship and the applications for our scholarships are at Wolcott High School.

The Busy Bees have not been very busy.  We have had more snow-dates than the school system.  We were supposed to have a meeting on Feb. 20th in the evening and only 5 ladies showed up.  So many pillows were made in advance that we had plenty on hand, but we now have to start making more.  Every once in a while we receive a “thank you” note from someone that received a pillow and that makes it all worthwhile.  The Busy Bee date for March is on March 18th from 1:00 to 3:00 at our Library.

Maryann Gardner, daffodil chairlady, has made a great start in selling daffodils.  We will be sorting and bundling the daffodils at the Library on March 19th, come on down in the morning if you would like to help.

On March 8th, the High School Senior Art Contest will be held at Goodwin College in East Hartford.  There are always wonderful works of art done by high school seniors and many years Wolcott has had winners.

A most important fund raiser is coming up on April 6th—an Art Auction.  By now you all should have received tickets to sell.  It is important that we all come to the Senior Center because we need 100 people there to receive $1,000.00.  You do not have to buy any paintings, but we do need your “body” !!!!!  We also need finger foods, etc., ticket takers, picture movers, food servers and several other jobs to be done that day.  Our most important parts of this fund raiser is  -----  buy tickets, sell tickets, make finger foods and show up at the Senior Center on April 6th.  All of us have to help for this to be a success.  Cathy Newvine has sent out a flyer with info.

Our Club Members have had some very sad events this year.  On February 20th, Sandra Lofgren died at St. Mary’s Hospital.  Sandy was a wonderful, warm, happy lady that did many and varied things for us and our community.  Sandy will be missed by so many.
