FARMINGBURY WOMAN’S CLUB, GFWC    JUNE 2013 NEWSLETTER

WWW.FARMINGBURY .ORG

HAPPY SUMMER to all our members.  It has been very wet so far but I think the flowering bushes were  prettier this year than they have been in a long time.

May was a little busy for us.  On May 7th we held our Installation Banquet at Manor Inn.  JoAnn Birkenberger was hostess and the food was very good, service was good and we all thank JoAnn and her committee.  I was your installing officer and I had fun doing it and hopefully you enjoyed it too.  Rosemary West is our new President, Mary Ann Sharek is Vice President, Jean Iris is our recording secretary again, I am corresponding secretary again, Cyndy Bissonnette is again our treasurer and Mary Taylor is assistant treasurer.  DUES ARE DUE AND PAYABLE  --  $20.00 check made out to Farmingbury Woman’s Club and sent to Mary Taylor, 18 Tyrrell Drive, Wolcott.

Special Games were held on May 11th during a showery Sat.   The athletes enjoyed the games and getting their ribbons and eating lunch.  The games were dedicated to John Rossi who died a few months ago.  John was associated with announcing the games for many years.

The GFWC/CT Annual Convention was held on May 17th and 18th.  We received a few awards  --  donations to Rocky Hill Veterans Home and  membership program with information avail. to public about GFWC/CG and FWC.  We were acknowledged for participating in Wolcott Special Games, celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness month with tree in gazebo, and for publicity of GFWC through display case at Library and marching in Memorial Day parade.  There was also a memorial ceremony remembering Sylvia Russell and Sandra Lofgren.  Do you remember donating to Arthritis Links, well, $1,600.00 was donated to the Arthritis Foundation through the links collection.  Money is used for information about Lyme disease and now for Teddy Bears that can be heated to sooth juvenile arthritis pain.

At least 10 members marched or rode in the Memorial Day Parade.  Fun was had by all and it is a good way for people to see Farmingbury Woman’s Club in action – well walking and riding anyway.

At the Awards Night at Wolcott High School, three scholarships were given out by Kathy Newvine , our Education Chairlady.  This year’s winners are Alexandra D’Agostino, Timothy Legasse and Victoria Russo.  Congratulations to the winners and next year we will have a Sandra Lofgren Scholarship to award.

Our nominee for the Roseann Barratt Award, Mary Kelly, wasn’t the top winner, but just being nominated is a form of winning.

Driving by the Senior Center and also the Town Green please notice the pretty flowers being taken care of by Kathy Cosgrove and her committee. Diane Colangelo and  Marcia Murphy.

Don’t forget  --  FARMINGBURY WOMAN’S CLUB will be meeting at St. Maria Goretti Church Hall on the first Tuesday of each month.  The Busy Bees will be continuing with meetings set up for Sept. 16, Oct. 21 and Nov. 18 so far.

June will be a very quiet month for Farmingbury Woman’s Club.  We will not be needed for the Robotics event at the high school this year and there are no regular meetings.  However, there will be a Board of Directors meeting on June 19th, 6:15 at the Wolcott Library.  If you are a chairlady or officer, please plan on attending this important meeting.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY in July to:  Carolann Cote,  Shirley Dancer, Barbara Lupia, Joan Lawrence and Elaine Chasse.

We also want to wish any member that is not feeling well A SPEEDY RECOVERY.  Sometimes members do not get cards because I am not aware that there is any illness.  I know that Fran Culver is in Beacon Brook in Naugatuck, Elaine Chasse is exercising at home, Sandy Fitzner is recouping and Shirley Dancer is getting better at home and a lot of us are exercising our arthritis aches. !!!!!!!!!!!!!
