SPRING has finally come with all the beautiful flowering trees and bright yellow daffodils waving in the breeze.  There is still a chill in the air, but we know warm weather is on its way.

April was a very busy month for Farmingbury Woman’s Club.  Our regular meeting on  April 2 was very well attended, over 40 members.  Carole Mueller cast one ballot and the slate of officers for 2013/2014 were voted in.  Fran Culver and her committee worked very hard and made many, many phone calls but were successful and we have a full slate.  President – Rosemary West, Vice President – Mary Ann Sharek, Recording Secretary – Jean Iris, Corresponding Secretary – Carole Mueller, Treasurer – Cyndy Bissonnette and Assistant Treasurer – Mary Taylor.  All committees have chairladies and some have helpers too, so we will have a fantastic year coming up.  We want to thank Pat Dancer and her officers for working hard and making last year a success.

Kathy Newvine did a wonderful job with our Spring Fundraiser.  We had a most successful Art Auction and the Senior Center was full of paintings and also people.  We were supposed to have 100 people there for an hour, but it ended up at 95, but we got the $1,000.00 anyway.  It is very important for ALL club members to help when there is a fund raiser because we all contribute to its success in various ways.  Thanks to all those who sold and bought tickets, made food items and brought wine and most important of all, showed up and brought people with you.  The Waterbury Women’s Club celebrated their 124th birthday and had a very nice lunch/party on April 9th.

Busy Bees were buzzing around the Library on the 15th and a lot was accomplished.  The May date for Busy Bees will be decided later.

We had a fun time at the bowling banquet for the Commission for Special Needs.  The bowlers received trophies, ate pizza, cake, drank

soda and danced to Troy Bonds music.  Mayor Dunn led the dancing

with the Chicken Dance.

The GFWC/CT Federation Day will be held on April 24th with the flag raising at 11:00 at the Town Hall.  We had a short ceremony without the GFWC/CT flag but all was fixed by afternoon.

The 27th of April is District Day for District 5. Several of us went to the Manor Inn for the meeting and lunch.  Some of our talented crafts ladies won blue ribbons.  Emily Audibert, Miss CT did a wonderful job speaking in the afternoon.  25 year-pins will be given to Helen Audibert, Shirley Dancer and Jane Maloney – congratulations for being such good members for so long.  During the month of April, our gazebo and our white tree were used by the Exchange Club, decorated with blue honoring their program on abuse.

May will also be pretty busy for us.  Our Installation Banquet, with JoAnn Birkenberger in charge, will be held at the Manor Inn on May 7 starting at 6:30.  Carole Mueller will be installing officer and we should have a good time and good food.  Special Games will be held on May 11th at Woodtick Recreation starting at 9:00.  We will be doing many jobs, one on ones, donut ladies, ribbon givers, lunch makers with the Lions and anything else that needs to be done.  On May 17-18 the GFWC/CT Annual Convention will be held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Cromwell, CT.  Please don’t forget about the Memorial Day Parade.  It starts at 5:30 in St. Pius parking lot on May 27th.  If you want to ride or walk or bring candy to throw,  please call Rosemary at 879-0302.
