FARMINGBURY WOMAN’S CLUB NEWSLETTER FOR DECEMBER 2013

Hello Ladies

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving time with family and friends.   We are now getting into the Christmas mode and the stores are beating us, but they are too early.  Don’t forget our Christmas Party is on December 3, at Bin 300 starting at 6:00 pm.  Sue Mulcahy is chairlady this year and Lois Pecka has been collecting your checks.  I have heard that instead of a grab bag we will be donating to the fuel bank. No one was interested in being a Secret Pal last year, but in January I will bring in the slips for anyone wishing to be a Secret Pal.  It is fun to send cards or small gifts to a member and then you receive cards too, and the names are revealed at our Christmas Party.  This year we will have a “monitor” with a list of names so if you forget who your Secret Pal is, she will be able to help.  I hope you are remembering our veterans, especially at this time of year.  Barbara Lupia has given us a list of items the veterans could use.

Thanks to those of us that brought food items for the food pantries, for bringing items for the veterans and donating to the cost of shipping our gifts to servicemen and women.  Thanks to Rosemary West for taking care of our white tree and the pink lights and ribbons.

There was no Busy Bees in November and the date of Dec. 16th is set for our next meeting.  We will contact you if we decide not to have it.

Barbara Lupia, Reports Chair., says ‘it is time to prepare our reports for the State.  Please report on every activity you did this year – Jan 2013 thru Dec 2013.  Include any money spent, any donations, number of members that worked on the activity and hours devoted to activity and planning it.  If you received any donations (baked items or pizza from a local business) and the value of items, if you made any donations to any community organization or person, please report it.  Call Barbara, 203 441-4182 if you have questions.  Barbara needs the reports by Dec. 16 so she can compile all of our activities.

Fire Prevention Poster Contest posters was judged on Nov. 24, 8:00 to noon at WALC Youth Center, 48 Todd Road.  The Poster Awards night is scheduled for Dec 16 at Senior Center starting at 6:00.

The Lions Club Winter Wonderland will be on Sunday Dec. 8th from noon to 4:00.  Mary Ann Sharek is chairlady and will be in charge of cookies.  It is a lot of fun, but dress warmly because we sit outside and distribute cookies to the young and old that like cookies.  I wonder if our Elf will appear this year  ???????????????

Toys for Tots and Teens wrapping or bagging of gifts will be held on Dec 16 and 17 at American Legion Hall from 6:00 till finished.  It is easy to bag and nice to know that you are helping someone in need.

Happy Birthday in December to Amber Lipscomb, Phyllis Bruce and Rosemary West.
